The Job
This is a full-time position based in our San Dimas, CA office. The Accounting Manager, under the direction of the Controller, is responsible for the supervision of the accounting staff, and for financial statement and report preparation. This includes the general ledger, payables, receivables, property, financial reporting, and analysis. This individual is responsible for financial statement and report preparation on a regular and special request basis plus reviewing entries to general ledger and subsidiary ledgers to assure accuracy.
Responsibilities
  • Supervises and trains, as needed, employees in general accounting, accounts payable and accounts receivable.
  • Maintains the company's system of accounts and keeps books and records on all company transactions and assets.
  • Ensures that standard accounting principles are followed in keeping the company's financial records.
  • Regularly reviews entries to the general ledger to assure accuracy and compliance with established accounting principles and procedures.
  • Prepares journal entries for posting to the general ledger.
  • Prepares financial statements and reports as required.
  • Assists Controller to coordinate and prepare for financial audits as required by company policy, governmental regulations, or other organizations.
  • Answers questions from departments as it pertains to financial reports, budget variance analysis and budget preparation.
  • Assists the Controller in preparation of annual tax returns.
  • Oversees filing state sales and use tax returns and property tax returns.
  • Maintains tax compliance with all federal, state, and local taxes.
  • Should have knowledge of best practices on accounting policies and procedures.
  • Oversees internal controls to assure proper compliance.
Qualifications
  • A bachelor's degree in accounting with a minimum of 5 years of accounting experience is required.
  • Minimum of 3 years of supervisory experience in accounting, preferably in a nonprofit environment.
  • CPA is highly desirable.
  • Required thorough knowledge of "best practices" accounting principles and procedures.
  • Must have knowledge of data processing capabilities and procedures.
  • Ability to supervise and monitor the accounting staff including assessing the quality of their work annually to recommend any merit increases
  • Must be able to communicate effectively in writing and verbal with all levels of management.
  • Must be able to have good working relationships with co-workers, supervisor, management, and department head staff.
  • Detail oriented, self-motivated, and results-focused with strong problem solving, analytical, and decision-making skills.
  • Ability to organize, prioritize, and work effectively with short deadlines and evolving requirements.
  • Experience with Microsoft Dynamics 365 (financial systems) is highly desirable. Must have proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.
Physical Requirements
  • Able to work at a computer all day.
  • Ability to talk on the phone as needed.
  • No heavy lifting required.
