PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Competently performs stereotactic procedures and/or performs QC related to mammography including required documentation.
  2. Performs all types of mammography imaging to include needle localization, lymph node injections and ductograms. May assist physician with biopsy and aspiration procedures, practicing sterile technique as required. Sets up sterile trays with all supplies and instruments required for procedures.
  1. Performs bone densitometry.
  1. Understands and performs within the guidelines of all pertinent regulatory agencies (ACR/FDA).
  1. Evaluates films for abnormalities and identifies areas requiring additional imaging in conjunction with the Radiologist.
  1. Communicates with and follows direction of the Radiologist.
  1. Communicates and educates the patient before, during and after exam to include post-procedure instructions.
  1. Reviews breast self-examination information with patients/clients.
  1. Reports any work-related problems or concerns to supervisor.
  1. Determines proper technical factors and adjusts mammography equipment accordingly.
  1. Assesses patient condition throughout procedures and observes for and reports adverse events.
  1. Completes all functions required for documentation and charging (i.e., computer system, etc.).
  1. Practices proper safety techniques in accordance with hospital and departmental policies and reports any mechanical or electrical equipment malfunctions, unsafe conditions to appropriate person.

Additional Duties for Technologists Participating in TMIST Research Study

  1. Understand and adhere to TMIST research study protocol.

  1. Perform additional QC related to TMIST study including required documentation.

  1. Participates in applicable meetings; training as required by the Northside Hospital Cancer Institute (NHCI) and/or Northside Hospital Central Research Department.

  1. Verify patient meets TMIST eligibility requirements (patient will be initially screened through Central Research Department).
  1. Assist Central Research Department to ensure TMIST patients are tracked, imaged, and coordinated consistently as per protocol requirements.
  1. Performs uploading of TMIST exams as specified in research protocol.

PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT AND LEADERSHIP

  1. Complies with American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) rules and regulations, registration and certification requirements, standards of ethics, and continuing education requirements.
  1. Complies with the American College of Radiology (ACR) and Food and Drug Administration (FDA) Mammography Quality Standards Act (MQSA) rules and regulations for Radiologic Technologists performing mammography examinations.

Additional Duties And Responsibilities

  1. Other duties as assigned by supervisor.

REQUIRED:

  1. Graduate from an accredited program in Radiologic Technology.
  2. Registered by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) as a Radiologic Technologist with certification in Radiography and Mammography R.T.(R)(M)(ARRT).
  3. Qualified to perform stereotactic procedures and/or quality control (QC) specific to mammography.
  4. Certified in American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) for Health Care Providers (CPR and AED) Program
  1. 1 - 3 years' experience in mammography.
  2. 1 year experience in stereotactic procedures and/or quality control (QC) specific to mammography.
  3. Experience in Clinical Research setting.
