Position description

The Department of Education Studies at the University of California, San Diego, is committed to building an excellent and diverse faculty, staff, and student body and seeks a Project Scientist (non-tenured, Assistant level) to contribute to ongoing research practice partnership projects focusing on science teacher professional development, and designing learning environments that promote equity through robust opportunities to learn for minoritized learners.

As a critical member of the research team, the Project Scientist will contribute to the planning, development, and implementation of research studies and be responsible for major contributions to scientific writing, grant writing, and presentations of research findings, including: collaborating on the development and implementation of strategic research grant proposals; participating in the collection, organization, management, analysis, and presentation of research data, including preparing scientific reports, manuscripts, and presentations for academic and community audiences; helping

investigators meet publication and research program priorities; utilizing continuous improvement methodologies to evaluate and ensure that future plans

and processes are informed by research findings.

At UC San Diego, Project Scientists are academic researchers who are expected to make significant and creative contributions to a research team, but are not necessarily leaders of the research team. They are not required to carry out independent research or develop an independent research reputation but will publish and carry out research or creative programs with supervision by a member of the Professor or Professional Research series.

University and public service are encouraged but not required, and they do not have formal teaching responsibilities.

Appointments and duration vary depending on the length of the research project and availability of funding.

Qualifications
Basic qualifications (required at time of application)

  • Doctorate degree in Education/Learning Sciences or its equivalent
  • 3+ years experience in grant writing and development
  • 3+ years of demonstrated experience in publishing papers in related learning science, educational equity-related journals
  • 3+ years of demonstrated accomplishments in areas contributing to diversity, equity and inclusion, and a desire to advance UC San Diego's commitment to achieving excellence and diversity

Preferred qualifications

  • Postdoctoral or equivalent experience
  • Experience with learning sciences methodologies, including but not inclusive of mixed methods, measurement design and analysis, randomized control trials
  • Knowledge of teacher learning, pedagogy and professional development
  • Expertise on anti-racist pedagogies, equity-oriented pedagogical frameworks
  • Experience in technology-based project development, planning, and coordination
  • Experience in running professional development, training instructors in anti-racist teaching and learning pedagogy
