Overview
***This role is ideal for an Advanced Practitioner who is looking to combine their clinical, administrative, management and program development expertise to grow the Cellular therapy and BMT program in our Brock Cancer Center in Norfolk, Va. The program currently provides autologous stem cell transplant, CAR-T and bi-specific T-cell therapies. ***We are seeking an APP who is passionate about providing high quality patient care and has a genuine interest in malignant hematology who collaborates well, is eager to establish partnerships at all levels within the organization and community, has an innovative approach, manages staff and performing clinical work. Virginia Oncology Associates, the largest group of medical professionals in Hampton Roads and Northeast North Carolina devoted exclusively to cancer care and blood disorders, has an exciting opportunity for a Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant within our cellular therapy department located in our cancer center located in Norfolk, VA.
Responsibilities
- Supervisor responsibilities may include but are limited to payroll, staff oversight, responsibility for program growth and coordination of care within the cellular therapy department in accordance with Foundation of the Accreditation of Cellular Therapy (FACT) Standards.
- Work with team to implement new therapies within the program, working with both outpatient and inpatient oncology and pharmaceutical company during this implementation to develop processes, procedures, and education.
- Serve as liaison between research and cellular therapy/transplant department to bring cellular therapy protocols to the outpatient and inpatient settings.
- Provide oversight of the cellular therapy/transplant department, including patient care as needed, under the supervision of the Cellular Therapy Physicians while maintaining the program under the requirements of the FACT Standards.
- Perform procedures within scope of practice as needed; to include bone marrow aspiration and biopsy.
- Outpatient clinical responsibilities may include patient care to meet department or practice need.
- Hours worked: FT 40h/week - primary dayshift responsibilities
- Works collaboratively with the Cellular Therapy Medical Director and physicians, practice administration and multidisciplinary team members to include physicians, APPs, nursing etc.
- Conduct comprehensive histories and physical examinations as needed.
- Demonstrate proficiency in technical/procedural skills.
- Provides management, referral, counseling, education to patients, families and caregivers along the continuum of cellular therapy care.
- Facilitate/participate in quality related initiatives and identifying improvement opportunities within the department.
Qualifications
- Graduate of an accredited Physician Assistant or Nurse Practitioner program required
- Virginia state and DEA licensure required
- Previous BMT Advanced Practice experience preferred
- 3+ years Acute Care NP or PA-C experience in leadership and program development preferred
- Current BLS certification
- Effective communication and collaboration skills are critical to success in this role
- Efficient, accurate, and timely documentation is expected
- Strong team player with a can-do attitude is a must! Must be flexible as program grows.
- Ability to work as part of a multi-disciplinary team is essential
- Travel required between office and hospital
- Management experience preferred
