The Office of Development at the Dell Medical School is looking for an Assistant Director of Prospect Research.

Purpose

This position reports to the director of development strategy and prospect research at The University of Texas Medical Center, anchored by Dell Medical School and the Dell Medical School. This position supports the fundraising efforts of The University of Texas Medical Center, anchored by Dell Medical School and Dell Medical School at the University of Texas at Austin through prospect identification, development research, prospect ratings, wealth analysis, and prospect management. He or she will provide critical data and research information to fundraisers and other development team members to help identify, qualify and solicit grateful patient and non-grateful patient prospects. This position broadly supports the school's dynamic mission: to revolutionize how people get and stay healthy.

Responsibilities

  • Work closely with Dell Medical School gift officers and assist in prospect identification, qualification, strategy, and prospect and portfolio management.

  • Conduct independent research to identify new prospective donors.

  • Conduct and verify bulk capacity screenings of patients for the grateful patient program.

  • Contribute information to and assist in maintaining confidential donor database (VIP/SPUR) to best in practice standards of ethics and privacy.

  • Research and assist in qualifying potential donors by producing comprehensive reports on individuals, corporations, and foundations using online, internal and print sources.

  • Other related duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications
Bachelor's degree and three years of experience in development or prospect research or related experience, preferably in healthcare, higher education or complex non-profit environment. Three years of experience using online information resources. Demonstrated proficiency in data collection, verification, and analysis. Demonstrated understanding of development and major gifts fundraising and how research and prospect management supports development efforts. Understanding of multiple screening strategies and methodologies, including data mining, segmentation, and analytics. Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills. Outstanding organizational skills and experience using reporting tools and donor management software. Proficient in MS Word, PowerPoint, and Excel. Demonstrated ability to maintain confidentiality of sensitive information. Demonstrated ability to think strategically and creatively, work well under pressure, and manage details of several concurrent projects. Relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate.

Preferred Qualifications

Passion for health care. Five years of experience on a medical school/health care institution fundraising team in an academic medicine environment. Experience with Lexis-Nexis Universe for Development Professionals, IWave, Hoover's Online, Tableau, foundation research tools, and knowledge of prospecting tools and reports within prospective donor relations systems, e.g. Raiser's Edge, Sales Force, etc. Familiarity with the Association of Professional Researchers for Advancement Statement of Ethics and Prospect Research Skills Set. Problem solver. Proven self-starter capable of making sound, ethical, independent judgments. Strong attention to detail; extremely organized; Integrity, professionalism and collegiality are highest personal values; Success in working on a team, collaboratively and interdisciplinary; Personal and professional confidence, accompanied by a sense of humor and empathy toward others. Working conditions may work around standard office conditions. Repetitive use of a keyboard at a workstation.

Salary Range
$60,000+ depending on qualifications
