Purpose

The Research Associate IV serves as the project manager for a 5-years NIH-funded Project. The Project Manager will play a pivotal role in coordinating efforts within The University of Texas and among several collaborating institutions to study brain connections in human and nonhuman primates. The Project Manager will be responsible for the administrative organization and implementation of the tasks needed to implement the coordination and engagement efforts of the assigned project. The manager will support project leadership for everything that pertains to planning and execution of tasks, schedule meetings and organize hackathons. The project manager will coordinate with managers at other sites and have the opportunity to be exposed to one of the top national networks of neuroscience researchers.

This is a one-year position with the chance to renew yearly based on performance.

Responsibilities

1. Project Management:

  • Oversee lab project, handling grant requirements, contracting and Institutional Review Board (IRB) compliance.
  • Plan and execute meetings, consortia, hackathons and developer summits.

2. Operations Management:

  • Coordinate and oversee project related activities within the Pestilli Lab, ensuring efficient workflow and adherence to project timelines.
  • Contribute to building a unified knowledge base for brain connectivity across species and modalities. Disseminate these resources to the scientific community, and establish a strong outreach and engagement strategy to communicate the significance of the program goals to the general public.
  • Coordinate activity of a consortium of Universities and Institutes.
  • Manage logistics for the assigned project, including purchasing, scheduling, travel coordination and personnel management, contracts and documentation.
  • Ensure that all research activities comply with established protocols, safety regulations, and institutional standards. Address and troubleshoot any administrative or operational issues that may impact compliance.

3. Collaboration and External Engagement:

  • Work closely with faculty, researchers, and external partners on collaborative research initiatives to advance lab projects and goals.
  • Coordinate with external entities for joint projects and support faculty in establishing and maintaining partnerships.

4. Scholarly Contribution:

  • Assist in manuscript preparation, grant/report writing, and other scholarly activities to support lab research dissemination and funding acquisition.

5. Travel and Event Coordination:

  • Organize major regional and international travel related to lab projects, coordinating logistics, reservations and schedules.
  • Coordinate international travel arrangements for lab members attending or participating in global events and conferences.
  • Travel to national and international conferences to represent the project.
  • The manager will organize 1-2 major meetings per year directly coordinating logistics, scheduling, travel and accommodations for the meetings.

6. Reporting Structure:

  • Reports to the Principal Investigator (PI) of the Pestilli Lab, providing regular updates on project operations, progress, and any challenges.

7. Decision-Making Authority:

  • Operational Decisions- Authorized to make decisions regarding day-to-day project operations, personnel scheduling, and resource allocation.
  • Purchasing and Budgeting- Can approve routine purchases within budget guidelines; larger expenses require PI approval.

8. Protocol Enforcement:

  • Empowered to enforce lab protocols, addressing any violations or operational issues to ensure safety and regulatory compliance."

Required Qualifications
  • Master's degree in a related field (e.g., management, information science, psychology, neuroscience, data science, cognitive science, computer science) and 4 years' experience.
  • Or a PhD with 2 years' experience; or 6 years of experience with a bachelors.
  • Relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate.
  • Commitment to maintaining confidentiality and integrity in research practices.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced research environment.
  • Proficiency in the google suite and Microsoft suite (e.g., drive, docs, Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Prior experience with neuroscience or neuroimaging data preferred.
  • Computer and data science experience welcome.
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills.
Salary Range

$45,000-$55,000 depending on qualifications
