Position Overview
CAPS is a member of the Division of Student Affairs, where "We make learning possible." In collaboration with our colleagues across campus, we prepare students to succeed through personal development, peer engagement, lifelong learning, and social responsibility.
Counseling and Psychological Services (CAPS) is comprised of the Clinical Service and Campus Assistance, Resource, and Education (CARE) teams. We are an interdisciplinary team of professionals that work collaboratively to meet the diverse mental health needs of a global student community. The goal of the Counseling Center is to provide students with clinical, educational and outreach-based services that benefit the mental health and well-being of all Jayhawks. Services are primarily short-term in nature, and referrals are made to other helping professionals and community agencies as appropriate. Members of the counseling center are guided by our mission "Empowering Jayhawks to thrive by supporting and promoting mental health and well-being" and values of Authenticity, Belonging, Compassion, Dignity and Hope. Law/Social Welfare: The Embedded Clinician position is a new and exciting opportunity at CAPS. Working closely with the CAPS clinical team, they will play a crucial role in supporting the mental health and well-being of KU Law and School of Social Welfare students by providing counseling services, supervision and development of outreach and well-being programming. Embedded staff have a unique opportunity to develop ongoing collaborative working relationships with faculty and staff and develop an expertise within their embedded area. Job Description 60% Student/Client Direct Services:
Provision of primary, secondary, and tertiary counseling services to eligible members of the KU community within the CAPS scope of service. Performs initial consultation evaluations (routine, urgent, and crisis) based on the referring problem. Evaluations focus on arriving at a preliminary diagnosis, an integrated treatment plan, or appropriate referral. Provide consultation within the legal boundaries of release-of-information. Consistent with CAPS Policy & Procedure manuals, develop individualized treatment plan based on an investigation of empirically supported treatment options, make appropriate referrals, and accurately document treatment provided. 10% Training: Active involvement in all training programs including supervision of trainees, and educational activities. 10% Outreach and Community Engagement: Provide clinical workshops and liaison services. 10% Administrative Tasks and Meetings: Be an active, respectful, and engaged member of CAPS and its work groups. Attend staff and other assigned meetings/committees. 10% Professional Development & Peer Consultation: Attend staff and other assigned clinical meetings/committees. Perform other duties as assigned.
