What you'll be doing...

Join Verizon as we continue to expand our industry-leading network to improve the ways people, businesses, and things connect. As a Senior Engineer, you will provide technical expertise on a critical role involving network transformation, network outages, service issues, network optimization, and maintenance. You will be responsible for providing support to keep things running smoothly and change the way that our customers live, work, and play. We are a 24x7 highly visible Operations environment that performs troubleshooting, configuration changes, drive issues to resolution, and related functions.

  • Monitoring the network systems and applications to ensure overall system availability and performance.

  • Complying with company- and industry-wide standard directives to maintain network performance and enhance efficiency.

  • Providing expert-level optimization, troubleshooting, and maintenance support of network equipment, finding ways to make it even better.

  • Partnering with all key stakeholders to ensure new features and\or fixes are swiftly rolled out with no negative impact to customers or system performance.

  • Leveraging automation to eliminate manual processes and providing near real-time visibility into system health and performance.

  • Review/validate details and work scope for various VoIP order types.

  • Perform pre-install testing, resolve any issues that could impact service or delay the targeted due date.

  • Process telephone number ports and new telephone number activations via applicable systems.

  • Perform call traces to verify end-to-end call routing... troubleshoot and resolve issues as necessary.

  • Drive escalations with the appropriate internal/external teams for resolution.

What we're looking for...

You're tech savvy and well-versed in all things telecommunications. Working independently suits you well. You're also thorough, vigilant, and on top of the details - someone people count on to solve problems and to make sure they don't happen in the first place. You are energized by the challenge of working through difficult situations and finding positive outcomes.

You'll need to have:

  • Associate's degree or two or more years of relevant work experience.

  • Skilled in overall telecommunications support, particularly Voice over IP (VoIP).

  • Thorough understanding of Session Initiation Protocol (SIP).

  • Strong customer service/vendor management experience.

  • Experience with routers, switches, firewalls, session border controllers and connectivity correlation from end-to-end.

  • Knowledge to interpret network design documents.

  • Willingness to work rotating shifts including weekends and holidays.

  • Ability to obtain a government security clearance.

Even better if you have one or more of the following:

  • A technical degree in Electronics, Telecommunications, Computer Science, Engineering, Business or a related discipline.

  • Five or more years or more of experience in telecommunications.

  • Experience with automation tools.

  • Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot and resolve IP network troubles in the physical, data link, and network layers.

  • Ability to maintain configuration of devices in a network management monitoring system.

  • Expert-level knowledge of services, network devices, knowledge base solutions, and system monitoring tools.

  • Working knowledge of Cisco Broadsoft/Broadworks and associated features/functionalities.

  • Familiarity with various IP endpoints- phones, gateways, paging and adjunct equipment (Polycom, Ribbon, Cisco, Adtran, Audiocodes).
